Before we start defining and exploring about the chakras, it is very important to understand one thing. We all are energy. Everything in this universe both living things and non living things are created by energy. It is because of your energy centers what keeps you psychologically, emotionally, physically, and spiritually balanced.

Now let’s move towards chakra .The word chakra is a Sanskrit word for wheel or disk. There are 7 chakras in the body .These chakras are energy centers positioned throughout your body, that start at the bottom of your spine and end to the crown of your head. Each chakra has its own vibrational frequency, color, and governs the bodily system, influencing everything from emotional processing to resistance to disease. The chakras are linking mechanism between the auric field and the meridian system. The chakra was discussed and originate in India about 1,500 B.C.and it is also mentioned in yoga sutra of Patanjali yoga. It is Sir John Woodroffe who introduced about chakra in the early 20th century.

Our body have 122 minor chakras in addition to 7 major chakras.

Each major chakra spins at a different speed

1st Root/ Base chakra : Located at the base of the spine and spins the slowest. It is red in colour and it governs the survival instinct and grounding.

2nd Sacral chakra : Located at the lower abdomen. It is orange in colour and it governs intuition, sexuality and self esteem.

3rd Solar plexus chakra: Located at the upper abdomen. It is yellow in colour it governs ego, metabolism and digestion.

4th Heart chakra: Located at the centre of the chest. It is green in colour and governs compassion, spirituality and as well as building relationships and community.

5th Throat Chakra: It is located at the throat. It is blue in colour and governs communication, emotion, thyroid, jaw, neck, mouth and tongue.

6th Brow/ Third eye chakra: Located between the eye brows. It is indigo or purple in colour. It governs wisdom, imagination, intuition, psychic ability, eyes, pineal gland and brain.

7th Crown chakra: It is located at the top of the head and spins the fastest. It is violet in colour and governs connection with the divine, brain, hypothalamus and pituitary glands.

As we grow old our chakra can decrease in speed which cause lack of good health. Sometimes our chakra can be blocked, under active and over active as well.

Both under active and over active chakras cause many types of health issues in physical body. Meditating on each chakra and the sound and colour associated to it can help to balance chakra. Beside colour and sound we can incorporate the essence associated with each chakra.
